Reiki FAQs

1.

What can Reiki help with?

Many people seek Reiki when they are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, grieving, anxious or simply disconnected from themselves. Reiki supports the physical, emotional, energetic, and nervous systems by creating space to slow down, settle, rest and restore balance.

Because Reiki works organically with each individual, no two sessions are exactly alike. Some people desire greater clarity, perspective, or emotional ease, while others are looking to release tension, reconnect with themselves, or let go of that which no longer serves them.

2.

Can Reiki help calm an overactive nervous system?

While every person's experience is different, clients often describe feeling deeply rested, clear-headed, centered, and more grounded after a session. Although Reiki is not a medical treatment, research suggests it promotes relaxation and supports the body's parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) response, which is associated with feelings of calm and restoration.

3.

When do people seek Reiki?

People seek Reiki for many different reasons. Some clients book sessions when they feel overwhelmed, scattered or emotionally taxed, while others are navigating grief, caregiving responsibilities, burnout, relationship changes or major life decisions. Many people are not looking for answers so much as a dedicated space to slow down, deeply rest, reconnect with themselves, and gain greater clarity and perspective.

4.

What should I expect from my first Reiki session?

While every session is unique, most begin with a few deep breaths and a guided meditation to help you relax and settle into the experience. Whether we meet in person or online, I will explain the process at the start of the session so you know what to expect and can simply focus on being present. In-person sessions take place on a massage table, fully clothed. Virtual sessions take place from the comfort of your own home, seated or lying down in a quiet space. I invite you to discover more about the different types of Reiki sessions I offer

5.

What should I wear to my Reiki session?

Whether you have an in-person or virtual appointment, wear comfortable clothes. During in-person sessions, you will take off your shoes and be on a massage table, so be sure to avoid anything too restrictive or overly cumbersome.

6.

Is virtual Reiki effective?

Receiving support from the comfort of a client’s own home can enhance the calming and restorative nature of the Reiki experience. In fact, many clients find virtual Reiki to be as relaxing and restorative as in-person sessions. And while research on distance Reiki is still limited, studies suggest it supports relaxation and overall well-being. Many people appreciate the ability to receive support from the comfort of their own space, enhancing the calming and restorative nature of the experience.

7.

Can Reiki complement therapy or medical treatment?

Yes. Reiki is a complementary practice, not a replacement for medical care, diagnosis or treatment. Many people incorporate Reiki alongside conventional medicine, therapy and other wellness practices as part of a holistic approach to care and self-care. You will find Reiki alongside medical treatments in leading hospitals, wellness centers, care facilities and hospices.

8.

Is Reiki religious?

No. Reiki is not a religion. People from many faith traditions—and those with no religious affiliation at all—receive Reiki. My role is not to promote a specific belief system, but to create a supportive space for relaxation, reflection and restoration. Clients are welcome to approach Reiki through whatever spiritual, religious or personal lens feels right for them.

9.

What does Reiki feel like?

Many people describe Reiki as deeply relaxing and restorative. Clients often report feeling clear-headed, centered, grounded or better able to navigate whatever is happening in their lives.

Some people notice shifts in their perceptions or energy level during their sessions, while others simply appreciate having dedicated time for deep, restorative rest. There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki, and each session unfolds differently based on what is accessible and needed in the moment.
